What am I doing?:
- Still direct composting – turning dirt and recomposting (see post on direct composting)
- Sifting all beds of rocks and adding coir and pumice – 4 beds done, 10 more to do
- Re-seeded additional bitter gourd, as the plants I have may have died in the cold weather
- Attempting more chyote squash as mine is not looking as if it is going to make it
- Trying to sprout a tamarind seed – I am cleaning it daily from mold, but it appears to be swelling and cracking, so hoping it sprouts!
- Digging holes and planting trees and grape vines
- Prepared dirt at back of house for flowers (have powdery mildew there, so torched dirt, sprayed hydrogen peroxide, sifted top layer of dirt to remove rocks, set stakes for dahlia’s, seeded poppies and zinnias, laid manure)
Musings:
- Time is ticking away towards Spring – I have lots to do to be ready!
- Weeds are growing very fast. Purchased a weed torch, but not good at it yet. Have to keep practicing (in the backyard, as practicing in the front yard draws a lot of attention) :]
- Feel a bit overtaken by weeds (Photos below of me weeding between raised beds)
